Following on from the article on Irish attitudes toward sexuality from sexuality is this rather short episode.
It is alleged, with some strength, in a book by the religious affairs correspondent John Cooney, that the long-serving Archbishop of Dublin John Charles McQuaid found himself taking great umbrage at the affairs of a monkey. Adolphus was a happy monkey, who was content to spend his time and amuse by visitors by indulging in a lot of sexual solitaire. McQuaid, who was rumoured to be a paedophile himself, and unqustionably defended and aided other paedophiles, found this monkey’s narcissistic practice intolerable and him shot.
It must be true, it’s all here at The Herald Scotland. If you want to read more about this sociopath try this book by John Cooney: John Charles McQuaid: Ruler of Catholic Ireland, O’Brien Press, 2Rev Ed 2003, ISBN 0862788110
